Instructions for Retainers
Congratulations on completing orthodontic treatment and receiving your retainers!
Retainers should be worn 24 hours a day for the first several months after your braces have been removed. After the doctor advises you, retainers should be worn indefinitely while you sleep. If retainers are not worn, your teeth will shift!!
— These retainers are included with your braces fee. There is a fee to replace lost or broken retainers. If you take care of your retainers they can last many years.
— Take your retainers out when you brush your teeth. After you finish brushing your teeth, brush over your retainers and rinse them with cool water. You can soak your retainers in a denture cleaner. This will give them a fresh taste and smell. Do not soak them in mouth wash. It can damage your retainers. Do not put your retainers in the dishwasher, in boiling water, or leave them in a hot vehicle during the summer, they will distort or melt.
— You may take your retainers out when you eat. The retainers should be stored in a retainer case when they are not in your mouth. Never wrap your retainers in a napkin. Napkins get thrown away (along with the retainers).
— Keep your retainers away from house pets. Dogs and cats like to chew on them.
— If you lose or break your retainers, set up an appointment to see us right away.
